Ajiro - Wickerwork
by Rodney Jeppers
Ajiro (Wickerwork) is a traditional Japanese sashiko pattern composed of interlacing diagonal lines that form a repeating lattice, visually echoing the woven structure of bamboo or reed baskets. Originating in rural Japan, the pattern reflects everyday craftsmanship and was historically used to reinforce and decorate garments, celebrating both durability and the beauty of functional handwork.
